It’s so sad that one of the world greatest inventor had just passed away; Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple. 2 years ago when Michael Jackson passed away, it was sad but now, it’s even worst because he’s the reason now we have all our iPod, iPad and iMac.

I kinda found out a video of him giving a speech which I think is really inspiring for me.

I am honored to be with you today at your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. I never graduated from college. Truth be told, this is the closest I’ve ever gotten to a college graduation. Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That’s it. No big deal. Just three stories.

The first story is about connecting the dots.
I dropped out of Reed College after the first 6 months, but then stayed around as a drop-in for another 18 months or so before I really quit. So why did I drop out?
It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed college graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife. Except that when I popped out they decided at the last minute that they really wanted a girl. So my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in the middle of the night asking: “We have an unexpected baby boy; do you want him?” They said: “Of course.” My biological mother later found out that my mother had never graduated from college and that my father had never graduated from high school. She refused to sign the final adoption papers. She only relented a few months later when my parents promised that I would someday go to college.

And 17 years later I did go to college. But I naively chose a college that was almost as expensive as Stanford, and all of my working-class parents’ savings were being spent on my college tuition. After six months, I couldn’t see the value in it. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and no idea how college was going to help me figure it out. And here I was spending all of the money my parents had saved their entire life. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out OK. It was pretty scary at the time, but looking back it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The minute I dropped out I could stop taking the required classes that didn’t interest me, and begin dropping in on the ones that looked interesting.

It wasn’t all romantic. I didn’t have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends’ rooms, I returned coke bottles for the 5¢ deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the 7 miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. I loved it. And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on. Let me give you one example:

Reed College at that time offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country. Throughout the campus every poster, every label on every drawer, was beautifully hand calligraphed. Because I had dropped out and didn’t have to take the normal classes, I decided to take a calligraphy class to learn how to do this. I learned about serif and san serif typefaces, about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about what makes great typography great. It was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science can’t capture, and I found it fascinating.

None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But ten years later, when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, it’s likely that no personal computer would have them. If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backwards ten years later.

Again, you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.

My second story is about love and loss.

I was lucky — I found what I loved to do early in life. Woz and I started Apple in my parents garage when I was 20. We worked hard, and in 10 years Apple had grown from just the two of us in a garage into a $2 billion company with over 4000 employees. We had just released our finest creation — the Macintosh — a year earlier, and I had just turned 30. And then I got fired. How can you get fired from a company you started? Well, as Apple grew we hired someone who I thought was very talented to run the company with me, and for the first year or so things went well. But then our visions of the future began to diverge and eventually we had a falling out. When we did, our Board of Directors sided with him. So at 30 I was out. And very publicly out. What had been the focus of my entire adult life was gone, and it was devastating.

I really didn’t know what to do for a few months. I felt that I had let the previous generation of entrepreneurs down – that I had dropped the baton as it was being passed to me. I met with David Packard and Bob Noyce and tried to apologize for screwing up so badly. I was a very public failure, and I even thought about running away from the valley. But something slowly began to dawn on me — I still loved what I did. The turn of events at Apple had not changed that one bit. I had been rejected, but I was still in love. And so I decided to start over.

I didn’t see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.

During the next five years, I started a company named NeXT, another company named Pixar, and fell in love with an amazing woman who would become my wife. Pixar went on to create the worlds first computer animated feature film, Toy Story, and is now the most successful animation studio in the world. In a remarkable turn of events, Apple bought NeXT, I returned to Apple, and the technology we developed at NeXT is at the heart of Apple’s current renaissance. And Laurene and I have a wonderful family together.

I’m pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn’t been fired from Apple. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it. Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith. I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.

My third story is about death.

When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: “If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.” It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

About a year ago I was diagnosed with cancer. I had a scan at 7:30 in the morning, and it clearly showed a tumor on my pancreas. I didn’t even know what a pancreas was. The doctors told me this was almost certainly a type of cancer that is incurable, and that I should expect to live no longer than three to six months. My doctor advised me to go home and get my affairs in order, which is doctor’s code for prepare to die. It means to try to tell your kids everything you thought you’d have the next 10 years to tell them in just a few months. It means to make sure everything is buttoned up so that it will be as easy as possible for your family. It means to say your goodbyes.

I lived with that diagnosis all day. Later that evening I had a biopsy, where they stuck an endoscope down my throat, through my stomach and into my intestines, put a needle into my pancreas and got a few cells from the tumor. I was sedated, but my wife, who was there, told me that when they viewed the cells under a microscope the doctors started crying because it turned out to be a very rare form of pancreatic cancer that is curable with surgery. I had the surgery and I’m fine now.

This was the closest I’ve been to facing death, and I hope it’s the closest I get for a few more decades. Having lived through it, I can now say this to you with a bit more certainty than when death was a useful but purely intellectual concept:

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

When I was young, there was an amazing publication called The Whole Earth Catalog, which was one of the bibles of my generation. It was created by a fellow named Stewart Brand not far from here in Menlo Park, and he brought it to life with his poetic touch. This was in the late 1960′s, before personal computers and desktop publishing, so it was all made with typewriters, scissors, and polaroid cameras. It was sort of like Google in paperback form, 35 years before Google came along: it was idealistic, and overflowing with neat tools and great notions.

Stewart and his team put out several issues of The Whole Earth Catalog, and then when it had run its course, they put out a final issue. It was the mid-1970s, and I was your age. On the back cover of their final issue was a photograph of an early morning country road, the kind you might find yourself hitchhiking on if you were so adventurous. Beneath it were the words: “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.” It was their farewell message as they signed off. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you.

Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

The past has passed, therefore I’m guessing we should just look at our future right now. Let us remember him, who changed our life, in our hearts.

The X-Factor USA Ep 2

This is so frustration because Episode 1 was amazingly awesome and then, this? For godness sake, this is not the worst yet, I mean, this is my personal opinion. There’s this rock and roll guy, Dexter Haygood.

Watch this first.

First, he almost got cut off but Simon ‘saved’ him and gave him a second chance, I would say usually, USUALLY second chance means mind blowing performances but instead I feel like it’s just SLIGHTLY better, I mean 1% better only? He got thru the audition. For me, I don’t feel like he’s good enough for this competition but America rejects my opinion.

She sang ‘Listen’ by Beyonce. Yup, tough song but let me tell you this, she freaking nailed it! Yes, as powerful as Beyonce! Trust me, this is the only video you would not want to miss it.

Sometimes I really wish that I have their talent.. *envy* but anyway summary for Episode 2 was talent’s not overwhelming, lots of retards and looking forward for Episode 3 next Friday! (Only for me who watch X Factor thru Malaysia’s 8TV)

The X-Factor USA Ep 1

I been waiting and waiting for Simon Cowell to be back on reality television show and finally, he’s BACK!

Well, I do not have Astro or whatever other channel, Imma sticking with my 8TV. Their channel might be late a couple days late than US time but I’m good with it, as long it’s air in Malaysia.

There’s a few talent I would say it’s good such as this 12 years old, Rachel Crow

Not bad I would say, for a twelve years old young lady.

There’s a lot of wonderful talent but I’m promoting the excellent ones only; such as Stacey Francis, a 42 years old mom of two.

Her voice is just…. beautiful. Seriously, watch this.

I seriously don’t know what’s wrong with her ex-‘husband’. Seriously, for a person to suppress this wonderful woman is just a jerk. Whoever you are, curse you.

Well, next we have this guy, Chris Rene, 28.

He sang his audition with his own original song, Young Homie. I mean, for a big show like this he uses his own song. It’s kinda bold but you will believe each words he sang. Try listening.

For a person who just got off from rehab, I’m freaking sure it must be hard for him to scrap of his addiction but I guess, this might be his chance.

Well, such wonderful an opening for the brand new reality show, I would say (for now), this show is 100% better than this year’s American Idol. For everyone (Malaysian), who doesn’t have Astro, like me, The X-Factor is on 8TV; every Friday and Saturday, starting 10pm and 10.30pm.

I am so hype for this show!! *smile smile*

Change of season

A week before, it was a sunny, bright and warm day with tremendous supply of UV rays.. until it reaches this week.

Seriously, for the past week my days were horrible and restrained. Let’s just say ‘I hate rain right now..’ It’s kinda unusual cause I am the type of people who loves rain. When it’s raining, it’s cooling and comfy but usually that time is either holiday or a day I spend at home.

Frustrated am I , right? Tell you why. For the past weekend, I was very busy with my school’s Board’s farewell dinner which happened just yesterday and it was AMAZING, like duhhh. Motorcycle is the best transportation to travel to buy something in Penang but with this raining season, it’s just a pain in my chest (used another word to reduce vulgarity).

“Why not car instead?” Well, that’s a good question! Ask my great-all-mighty brother, he’s using the card for 24/7 and I mean LITERALLY 24/7. I seriously don’t understand him, to request to use even for freaking 1 day is a failure. It’s like I’m talking to the wall.

Anyway, my whole week of suffering paid off since the farewell dinner went EXTREMELY Awesome! Seriously, if it’s wasn’t for my friends to offer me transportation to school on rainy days. I would be stuck and home, dry or stuck at school, wet.

Weekly Craze: Examination

Well, this week isn’t crazy much but still the subject we are referring now (Obviously me) is gonna explode soon. Sometimes I really do wonder, why does examination exists? It will just cause lots of stress only. *tired*

Anyway, due to my upcoming examination and I know it goes same with others as well, here’s my ‘medication’ for my pre-examination, music.

Weekend’s Getaway

Practically it’s not really a ‘getaway’ of vacation-type but to reduce mental stress from studious. My bad for not updating my blog cause of the amount of homework you can visually see that it’s pilling up and never comes down. By the way, I am currently studying as a Form Six.

Therefore, the only days I‘m looking forward is the weekend! *Looking forward to the weekend*

Seriously, weekend really save my life. As weekend arrived, I have 48 hours of freedom to finish up my homework, leisure and time for blogging :) Therefore, as today, I went to Tesco Tanjung Tokong. The newly open Tesco which replace the old one at upper Greenlane.

I was looking forward for this because I planned to visit here on the opening of the store but… you know, homework? My brother went there and he told me there’s like Sakae Sushi, Mizi Bistro, Swensen… Waaahhhh! *excited*

And it’s true! I see a lot of stall there, the concept may be something like the old store but me likey the new tenants! Ground floor and the 1st floor is mainly for all the tenants; food, beverages, clothing and electronics. And the main topic is at the 2nd floor, TESCO supermarket. Eventually I spent a lot there, food and more food. It was really really spacious!

And later, I went to town area at the afternoon. My target was Prangin Mall cause I wanted to get a Y-cable for audio.

But due to lack of experience of the product, I bought a Y-cable for audio BUT not left/right output. I bought the same mono output.

I was really frustrated when I realised I bought the wrong thing when I reached home. Haizz, what a luck. Anyway before I went home, I went to 1st Avenue where once I worked there. Find my old colleague and friends, it was really nice to talk to them after months of not contacting them. What a nostalgia feeling. *dreaming*

Meeting back friends there wasn’t my only motive, as I was going to visit another supermarket in 1st Avenue which is Carrefour.

Well, it was nice to FINALLY have a supermarket for 1st Avenue where I believe it will attract more customers there. It was kinda packed due to the space and their stocks. Final say, it’s a shop-able place.

After wondering aimlessly for a few minutes, I decide to go back as my sickness (Flu) is worst. Since early morning I was sneezing all the way, oh well. Went back home and sleep.

And here am I, blogging after several hours of sleep. Hopefully every weekend I could blog about something that will happen to me. Some good, of course. Looking forward for tomorrow too as I will be…….

Happy Father’s Day

It’s not like my usual post about the random stuff that happens to me. Today I would just like to express my feeling and thoughts here.

2 years plus had passed and the Earth is still spinning, everyone is still going through life. I still can remember that fateful day, clearly as it was just yesterday. I was having my one of my best day of my life as I was in school and it was PE, volleyball is the game and I totally have a great time. That 5 hours at school was seriously fun cause the day later, I will be having my trail examination for one of the important examination of my life.

After school, it’s was time to go home and as usual my dad picked my up with the usual motorcycle and headed home. At home, I broke my daily routine by going to study for my examination (I don’t usually study). I studied for around an hour and decided to take a break. I sat down at the living room and did nothing. Mom was hanging clothes outside and then, something happened.

I heard voice of my dad, he was sleeping at that time. Something like a grunt but I did not care about it. A while after the first sound, it happened again and frequent. I went and asked my mom about it and she thought he was having nightmare. Then, we approached him and try to wake him up but we can’t. Then we shouted and hit him but it failed. My brother quickly try to do CPR on him and I went for ambulance call.

As I called the ambulance, I was really scared and I really don’t know what to say, I just told them my address and told them to be quick! They told me they don’t know the specific area, so they asked me to stay outside the main road. I went quickly outside and waited for them.

Waited and waited for 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, no sign of ambulance. My neighbour called the ambulance again to confirm and a couple of minutes later, it arrived. As I was outside, I don’t know what is happening inside but I could guess, my brother keep doing CPR. When they arrived, I can guess it was too late already but I couldn’t accepted the reality. Hoping and hoping and hoping but when the paramedics told us that he was gone, my mom cry in despair, my brother try to be strong and me, I just keep quiet and I just could not accept the reality. I was thinking that maybe it’s just a dream or a movie, everything will be okay by tomorrow or later but my senses came to my and told me that everything will not be okay anymore.

Anyway, it had already happened a couple years ago and my family is slowly getting over the grief and sadness but till today, these memories will always be in my mind. I just want to say I really love you, dad even you are always strict with me, scold me but you are the only father of me. Happy Father’s Day to you in paradise…

Monkey Beach

It’s been a while I went for hiking, as the last time was here

And then, why not step up for a little challenge in life?

A classmate of mine suggest for a hike to the infamous Monkey Beach of Penang, which is located somewhere in the north of Penang. Somewhere in the jungle, I guess?

Before we entered the jungle, oh by the way, this jungle we are talking about here is a reserved forest. Yes, ‘Taman Negara Pulau Pinang’ which stands for ‘Penang’s Reserved Forest’.

Well, as for the government property, we had to register before we entered. Just a simple registration to ensure that what remains there, remains there.

Well, our journey started with a stroll down to the nature and greeted by a sign.

We wanted to go to Monkey Beach, therefore right we go. Seriously, it was my first time hiking there, so I will spare you the details. I was truly amazed by the beauty of the nature, the flora and fauna was amazing.

But the deeper we went, the more frustrating it be. This is NOT a hike! This is a jungle trekking! Seriously, I was thinking of hiking upward but all I did was moving forward with a little incline and decline.

Our journey was tiring but when I saw these white sandy beach,

YESH! All my frustration were swept by the salty sea. Niceee..

But when I asked “Are we here?”, I got the reply, “No, there’s another 1 hours hike to go”… FML! Urghhh…

Anyway, I just went on the flow and hike for another hour and then T.G.I.M (Thank God It’s Monday), we reached Monkey Beach!

Tired and hungry, therefore we quickly sat down the benches and started eating ‘nasi lemak’ courtesy from the organiser.

After our loving brunch by the sea, it’s time for some entertainment! Beach Volleyball!

And not to forget, music.

Our heaven was so perfectly lovely until a beast showed up.

A monkey! “Duh, that’s why it’s called Monkey Beach”

The girls were freaked out, screaming in fear…. so are some of the guys. The ferocious beast went searching for food near our bags but luckily with a little taunting and ‘manhood’ from the guys, the heroes saved the day. How fairytale-like, but the girls weren’t paying attention of the ‘manhood’ of the guys. Pity us.

Anyway, we did spent our sweet time there in the nature for almost the whole morning and the afternoon. That was really fun… I meant it!

Everyone was so tired and they refused to hike by the trail we used, therefore as an alternative, we took a boat back to the civilisation.

Quick and wonderful, it’s really a great experience for us cause not everyone get a chance to sit on a big fishing boat, courtesy to the organiser again. (Really nice organiser)

It was really a wonderful hike and beach. Everyone in Penang should try to hike! But as a tip for you guys, try to get the name card of the boat service in front of the center first before you enter the nature.

My Experience with SONY Cyber Shot

Staying in Penang is truly a blessing to me since there’s so many places I can go and not get lost, literally you could not get lost in Penang unless you head to the jungle and yes you get lost there.

Penang Hill, tourist attraction and the heart of Penang. The tram service was recently continued by when we went for hiking, it wasn’t moving. That’s why we WENT hiking!

The hike began with a sloopy sloop which is around 40 degree, I guess? Never though it would be this difficult at the beginning of the hike! We manage to survive till the first stop of the hike! Thank GOD!

State of physical: Partially working

And we are at 1.3km only, where the trail is around 5km. Another 3.7km to go. *faint*

Haha, just joking. As usual, we, the ‘strongmen’ went on our ‘Trail of Test’. Oh ya, luckily we brought camera for this hike and one of us, which is the one wearing white on picture about, was slowly walking up and taking pictures. Let’s see some of his pictures, shall we?

THISS! A white UMC (Unidentified Moving Creature) which WE have never seen before in our life. Curious…. but curiosity kills a cat, right?

As we move forward, against the gravity, FINALLY we manage to reach the top! Of course, harmless. “As usual la~ StrongMEN!”

The view of Penang from Penang Hill, just a breath-taking view. Our 5.1km was truly worth it but our physical body do not allow us to stand even longer, therefore we just sat down and look at the scenery.

As we know, Penang Hill is a tourist attraction but this?

It’s empty! Maybe it’s due to the closure of the tram service.

Anyway, we ‘Strongmen’ are still human, therefore food are still very essential and off we go to hunt for food. We manage to find a restaurant named ‘David Brown’s Restaurant’.

Classy restaurant and beautiful garden but we could not afford it! It’s very very very expansive. Therefore, off we go to the food court. Much cheaper but the food was also very delicious.

After our ~~breakfast~~/brunch/~~lunch~~, we went for a stroll around the hill.

Paya Terubong/Farlim/Air Itam, hometown!

Even a big millipede said Hi to us.

We manage to spend around an hour plus up there and we decided to hike down but hey, picture first!

On the way down, about 500 meters away from the peak of the trail, we stumble a jeep-service and we decided to take it! Our legs hurt! It’s cause us around RM30 but it was worth it! Our ride was even better than a roller coaster!

At the end of the day, our legs hurt like madness, we are cashless but it’s some experience that will remain as memories in my brain. Quote from Mastercard, “It’s priceless”.

Age of Glory: KOMTAR

KOMTAR, acronym of Kompleks Tun Abdul Razak was once ‘the’ complex of all times before all others high-end complex such as Gurney Plaza or Queensbay mall.

But now as, if you ask the younger generation about shopping complex, first in mind would be Gurney Plaza and so on and so on, but they would not mention about KOMTAR. Why? This is why!

Isolated, abandoned, you named it. As I can remember from my childhood, this road is always packed of people, walking and struggling to get thru but now the floor is pretty squeaky clean.

When I walked down in KOMTAR, I can feel those nostalgic feeling I once had when I was very young; Uncle sitting down, lot of people walking down the complex, McDonalds were packed of people eating burger. I even went to this eatery where it’s has been open long time ago.

I meant, just look at this KFC store.

So many freaking years and it’s still standing STRONG!

Seriously, the only thing the public come to KOMTAR is to settle there fines, taxes, etc etc. Nothing much! Just that!

A lot of stores are still there, and they refused to leave. I guess they still believe that KOMTAR will have the age of glory once more in the future. Furthermore, the government is repairing/upgrading KOMTAR which I was really pleased by those action.

Moreover, part of KOMTAR had became ICT Mall, which I think it’s a brilliant idea, something like Low Yat in KL.

I mean, it’s a great first step to renovate KOMTAR and open an ICT mall, but they just need to make their paces a lot faster because I am afraid it’s something like KOMTAR too.

This couple month I had been spending my cold hard-earn cash on widescreen cinema with cozy seats and air-conditional.

I am making my short reviews about the movie I watch, just to fill in my time. Don’t expect the Rotten Tomatoes-esque of reviews, simple one.

The Green Hornet

The Green Hornet, yes it released quite a number of months already but I just watch okay? Seth Rogen is a comedian, therefore it’s kinda funny how he acted and his natural comedy background. Jay Chou, the superstar. It’s kinda weird to heard him speak English, with a weird accent.

Overall, it’s all about vigilante hero story. Predictable but watch it for the comedians’ sake.

Rating: 6/10 (Comedy’s sake)

The King’s Speech

Award-winning show, a must-watch movie! For some people who prefer action-packed movie, I would not recommend this movie to you because it’s drama and history genre. Colin Firth, winner for Best Actor who played as King George VI who just can’t speak… well. Stammer all the sentence he said and help by a speech therapist, Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush).

It’s might be a little boring from the starts by slowly with a little humour, the movie is enlighted with a splendid end. Overall, one again, a must-watch movie.

Rating: 9/10

Faster

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, ever since he joined the acting world, it’s getting better and better but in this movie, I would say it’s a little dull. It’s all about vengeance. Hunting down those robbers that killed his brother… Plot was boring.

Maybe if you are interested by the details of the movie or else, it’s more or else you will know the ending.

Rating: 4/10

127 Hours

Another must-watch movie. 127 Hours is based on the true story of Aron Ralston who loves the wild and don’t tell anyone that where he’s going. It’s a story where he is stuck in a canyon with a big boulder stuck on his right hand, with a limited amount of water to survive.

This movie is truly inspiring but for those weak-hearted people, I do not recommend you to watch the hand-amputating part. A lot of people can’t accept it, its looks really really real. The soundtrack was also highly suitable for the movie, check it out.

Rating: 9/10

The Mechanic

Another action-packed movie! Full of action and adrenaline that will sure keeps everyone awake for the movie. Bishop (Jason Statham) who is a hitman kills his target and acted it as if it’s an accident. During the movie, he had to kill one of his friend and the friend’s son is a good-for-nothing where he taught him to be a hitman too, something like that because I don’t really get it when I watched it.

Anyway, the plot was interesting but rather predictable too. Kill, kill, killed, as usual.

Rating: 7/10 (Action part only)

Rango

Johnny Depp’s movie. Although I hate to watch animation in cinema but this is quite interesting. Plot was easily predictable as it’s a person, or chameleon or lizard who lie and coincidentally with luck, people believe in him as a hero. Well, watch it for comedians’ sake again because there are lots of jokes! Very funny and laughable movie!

It’s might be animation but not recommended for children 12 and below because most of the joke are kinda mature jokes. Anyway, it’s a family/friends hangout movie.

Rating: 8/10

There are more movies I wanted to watch such as Black Swan, Unknown and etc. but it’s the cash I am worried of. Well, maybe you can tell me how do you think of the movie? *smile*

Drive Angry

Lets begin with the show. Drive Angry, acted by the one-and-only Nicholas Cage, released in Malaysia on the 25th of February… blah blah, read Wikipedia if you wan to know more or watch the movie instead.

Well, thanks to Nuffnang for the pair of tickets for me to watch Drive Angry in the latest cinema in town, TGV Cinema, 1st Avenue Mall.

My review for the cinema was it’s not as big as GSC but the seats were comfortable and cozy. The air-con was freaking cool as I was shaking in there. Sound systems were driving me crazy, in a good way!

Speaking of ‘driving’, meet some cars before you speak about a movie, lets talk reality!

Ah… what a fantasy to own one of these cars. Just imagine the crowd snapping pictures and indulging their fantasy… and free movie passes and merchandises were given away!

Back to reality, I mean the movie. Since Nuffnang gave 75 Nuffnangers a pair of tickets and I am one of the lucky ones, thanks for the tickets but I wasted my another one since I have no date. =(

My review towards the movie was a shocked. Well, this is my 1st time ever I went into a rated 18 movie since my birthday was only a month ago and yes, I am 18 now. Thanks for asking. =)

What I meant was I never thought of the word ”F**k” or “B*tch’ would be used in the cinema. Well, it’s not my 1st time watching movie with foul languages but it’s in cinema, public. Everyone has their first time, just bear with me.

To be honest, the movie was actually good, cool effects and action parts but I would recommend everyone to buy DVD to watch because in cinema, A LOT OF scene were censored or ‘cut’. It freaking annoys me when I see some bad guy going to attack and the next scene I saw him dead already, wtf?

Overall, it’s your choice. Sound system or uncensored parts? You choice. *grins*

It’s all bout’ Techs

In the 21st century, no one will survive without a computer. Do you agree?

No matter how hard you disagree with the statement, it’s the fact in this era, we are living with the comfort of technologies. Desktop, laptop, camera, mp3 player, iPod, tablet, cellphone, etc.

Although we live in a small island called Penang but technology is always developing right here or maybe right now. Therefore, it’s time to restock our techs as PIKOM’s PC Fair is back!

This year they will be a slight change of venue as it will be at Dewan Tunku or as known as KOMTAR Dome. The date will be the 11th till the 13th of March 2011.

My suggestions for these kind of fair are try not buy your computer here.

You might never knew what kind of hardware will they implant into your computer as it’s the latest or not, furthermore computers these days aren’t exactly cheap as it will reach 1k or more.

The stuffs that I do recommend are accessories such as memory drives, mouse, headphone, etc.

These are the items that nothing is switched or changed, maybe it can be some EOL items but hey, it’s still work! Anyhow, if it doesn’t, there’s warranty

If you can’t find anything suitable during PC Fair, don’t worry because a week after it, PC Expo will be held at PISA.

It’s getting more and more competitive every year as technology advanced in such a speed. Choose one to visit or maybe you want to spend 2 weeks of your weekends to visit such occasion?

Seriously, I waited and watched the Grammy's for 3 hours patiently to know who win for Album of the Year and you gave it to a rock band that shouts and scream eerily? And the worst part was I see nothing but bicycles flying around the stage during their performances.

Come on! There's Eminem, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry or even the top winner of the night, Lady Antebellum. Why some freak band? Weird choice.

Congratulation to Lady Antebellum for winning 5 Grammys! 'Need You Now' is really a nice song, hopefully we will hear more from these powerband!

Egg? Oh, it's just Lady Gaga inside it. Making a grand entrance as ever, Lady Gaga won 3 Grammys which is okay, right Gaga? Anyway, she did debut performance of her latest single, Born This Way which is released last Friday.

It's Bieber, ya it's him. Surprisingly that evening he wasn't as cocky as ever, I guess he's growing? Anyway, it surprised me when he did not win the Best New Artist instead the award was won by Esperanza Spalding.

Well, better luck next year, Bieber.

Eminem, the man! Powerful rap as ever. Performance by this man is great as ever with Rihanna for 'Love The Way You Lie Part 2' and also Dr. Dre and Adam Levine for 'I Need A Doctor'. Nominated for 10 awards but only won 2? Grammys is getting more unfair for the talented.

Anyway we'll still support you.

Bruno Mars. 1 Grammy. Not bad, not bad. No further comment.

Overall, the 3 hours of Grammy's was kinda down. Performances were great but predictable, the predictable winners turned up differently and the only fun part was the performance of the singer of the song other wise known as Forget You, Cee-Lo Green!

Well, not really. I usually got birthday wishes from my Facebook page such as "Have a blast" or "May your wishes come true". First and foremost, my birthday I was at work, FULL TIME shift!

But I was quite surprise, I actually had a great time there. My friends stop by to see me and even my supervisors com plot with my friends to buy a cake for me. *smile*

Well, I have to say my life as a 17 wasn't that bad. I actually achieved a few things.

My 1st wish from last year was safety to my family and nothing serious happen to them. Hopefully it will goes the same this year!

Able to force my Tourism Club's teacher to take us to KL.

Went to Genting Highlands after 11 years!

I am a materialistic. I don't denied that but sometimes, I just wish that safety to everyone is the most important! Hopefully this year will be a 'blast' and may all wishes come true.

Genting Highlands

It had been 10 years since I step into the Genting Highlands I once loved.

3 days 2 nights, staying at First World Hotel. Not a bad experiences. Seriously there nothing much difference from the last time I went there.

Theme park looks exactly the same, except for the Panasonic Eco Idea.

So cute yet green! I admired those decoration made by the management such as this

Nice and green; I meant green as in eco-green. Anyway, First World Plaza's design caught my attention much. Times Square, Hollywood, Paris, Venice, I feel like going everywhere in one place!

Genting Highlands is not a place to be stingy, since a plate of fried rice already cost RM9.90 but worry not cause most of the franchise shop only costs another RM5. That's quite affordable.

Theme Park is a must since all those attraction lies there. For normal season, All Park only costs RM62 only; Outdoor, Indoor and Wet.

If you don't have camera, fear not since most of the ride they offer photo session during your ride, but be careful of your pocket because one picture might cost you RM10++!

Outdoor theme park is strictly No Smoking area, so fear not children!

But most of the ride have height requirement, minimum or maximum. Therefore, measure yourself with the Height Worm. You can find it 'everywhere'.

If your heart is made up of steel or rock, you might want to try this.

Not recommendable for weak-heart, like me. ">.<"

During my walk, I spotted some Coke machines which is.... ancient!

Bottled Coke? That's seriously old; but it's just there as decoration only. LOL

Well, as a Starbucks Coffee fan, Genting Highlands have 3 outlets for Starbucks! Highland Hotel, First World's Lobby and First World Plaza.

Back to my main topic, I am planning to go for a vacation!

First and foremost, I am good-for-nothing except planning. I am excellent for it, you know!

1. Choosing location/date

Genting Highland, city of entertainment. A place where every single Malaysian should go before thinking of outstation.

2. Budget

You would want to check it out yourself as I took around 2 hours to finalize my budget list. Use your maths skills thoughtfully.

3. Companions

Family or Friends? Or both? Well, this time my trip is going to be with my friends. It's fun with family thought but once a while, friends only could be fun too!

4. Dateline for confirmation

Waiting for friends to confirm whether they can go or not can be frustrating. Some took around 10 minutes to confirm and others took around 10 days! Therefore, it's not that we love to lie but a little of peer pressure will do the trick. Quote, "Time is money"

5. Wait

As the last step, that's all we have to do. Next step? Wait; till the date come.

Just to break some curiosity among you, my trip will be around 2 weeks from now. Therefore, just wait for my vacation to be over and I will tell you my experience! In the mean while,

1. Watch my favorite Narnia

Narnia will and forever will be my favorite movie. It's quite interesting to watch the actor/actress in the movie to grow up. Especially Georgie Henley aka Lucy Pevensie.

In the first movie she was cute. =)

Growing to be a fine young lady. That's wonderful!

2. Hunt for Christmas presents

Presents for friends and family, seriously? I looking for something memorable and cheap. I kinda broke here? I am just a student!!

4. Watch Tron: Legacy

First of all, I have no idea what is Tron. When I watch the trailer for the first time, it gave me quite a strong impression and makes me wanna watch it. Kinda cool.

"You come to a school as a boy and you leave the school as a gentleman," quoting someone I knew. Very inspiring.

Well, as the last activity together with the fellow Form 5, having fun is the main priority but things before going to prom, Hairdresser!

Despite my SPM is still going on and taking a break off is quite....... reasonable!

The Straits Quay! Branches of the E&O company and it's open for public on the same day as the 1st Avenue Mall Penang.

This "mall" is very Eastern and Oriental and from far, it looks more like a hotel than a mall.

Oh wait, it IS a hotel, not for now but soon will be based on this picture I captured.

Due to the holiday season, Christmas Tree is a MUST for every place including the incomplete Straits Quay.

The interior is not half bad but seriously, it's like I am walking in E&O Hotel. The similarity is just too much and obvious.

When there is a quay, there's a ...... LIGHTHOUSE!

Sometimes it's quite clever of human to able to make sea into land. You can never thought of that idea 50 years ago and now, sooner I think Penang Island going to merge with the mainland.

"Is Penang ready for another mall?" Well, why don't you explore it yourself!

The 1st Avenue Mall had just open for public on the 25th of November. The interior was kinda stylish. My interpretation about the interior is 'Gurney meets Pavilion... in a smaller size'.

Since it's only open yesterday, not many store are open yet but I can roughly say that 40% of the shop has already open.

Yes, Kenny Roger's Roasters! No need for us to go till Queensbay Mall for one. Simple head to 1st Avenue Mall.

Rotiboy is kinda the hit for this newly open mall. Maybe they attract customer by promotion such as "Like" their Facebook page for a coupon.

Not as I expected for a classy mall but still acceptable...

Shops and more shops. Never bored with all these 'window shopping' shop. How nice of them.

The technology in this mall kinda amused me. Example, the Infrared Sensor Door.

Most of the mall these days use slide door and yet, a little bit of old school and technology sure is nostalgia.

Next, Transparent glass lift. Creepy yet enjoying!

I am predicting 1st Avenue Mall 'almost' going to the same with Gurney Plaza because of this.

Red Box! Young teens' heaven; but they will be quite disappointed by the 'arcade'.

Arcade ya.... I wonder. It looks more like a playground for kids.

Anyway, the difference between this mall and others is you can see the world from this mall. LITERALLY seeing the world; Penang of course.

I wonder how will it be when night falls?

Escalator Gurney-style! Amusing but I like it!

If you are free, try out the new Nerf guns! If you like it buy it, if not well you have fun shooting it. On the 28th of November, the Flyfm crew will come to this mall for a match out! If you are free, check them out!

Conclusion, 1st Avenue Mall is quite enjoying although the size is smaller than Gurney but hey, it's in town. Better than Prangin Mall and most important, wayyyy better than Penang Times Square!

There is something strange in this mall, makes me ponder and wonder... What are they going to build here?

Yes, the battle between burgers and fried chickens. Upon catching up the modern taste buds, both of these restaurants released a new flavor! Let's review!

McDonald's had been snatching the teens' hearts because of the free refills they offer; And the results was almost all outlet had became a 'library'.

Yes, from Triple Cheeseburger to Black Pepper Spicy Chicken McDeluxe to this, McChicken Supreme. Well, I can't practically take beef, so sorry but the second twist was definitely a hit, until, this. McChicken with the addition of

A slice of 'Smoky Chicken' which practically looks like a ham or bacon

And a slice of tomato.. Nice?

Well, with the additional ingredients come with an additional price. Guess what? It costs RM1.20 more than McChicken! A bacon and slice of tomato.... RM1.20? Anyway, the crunchy chicken patty overcome the taste of the 'smoky chicken', so it taste 95% the same from McChicken. 'Awesome'!

In other hand we have KFC! Finger licking good chicken that never fail to satisfied our taste bud but let's check out the new product.

Yes, spices make everything prefect, the Mega Mix Crunch; but sometimes it could be very disappointing. Couple days ago my friend and I went to an outlet in Farlim and when he ordered the dishes, it SERIOUSLY looked the same compared to the Hot & Spicy. Yes, the same!

Anyway, I think it might be the outlet problem because it's quite different when I visited other outlet in Penang. The taste was pretty nice, a little spicier than the regular Hot & Spicy; just it's disappointing when it's just a little difference. Price wise, thumbs up. *smile*

Overall, the new products from each restaurant have their own pros and cons. Choose wisely when you wanted to try anything new because you might be even heartbroken due to disappointment! Well, since fast food are quite unhealthy nowadays, why not go organic?

PETALING JAYA: These two pictures captured by The Star reader Ng Hock Hoo show a mini twister sweeping through Mata Air, Jejawi, Perlis.

Roofs were blown off while signboards were uprooted and houses damaged during the incident, which took place on Thursday evening. A van was also overturned.

Ng, an assistant maintenance manager in his 40s, captured the images while driving from Mata Air to his home in Arau.

Do you still remember these young children?

Of course you do, the Pevensie, Kings and Queens of Narnia. Yes, I am a big fan of them compare to Twilight.

In Narnia, there are no "I love you, Bella" for 20 times or "Kiss me" for multiple of time.

Enough of Twilight, back to the 'children' show. I am just excited the 3rd movie is gonna be release this holiday! Who will ever forget "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe", for a 2005 film and they could 'find' a wonderful place.

And the White Witch too, what a lovely lady.

Too cold to be handle but maybe it melt into water as the 3rd movie, "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of The Dawn Treader" will be the sea!
